When Star Wars Galaxies was initially released in 2003, players who wanted to play a SWG Jedi character first had to fufill an extensive list of requirements to unlock their Jedi slot. It took the first person four months after the release to unlock the Jedi slot. Players and media outlets started criticizing the game developers (SOE) for the:
- Considerable time-commitment it took to unlock the Jedi slot
- Boring gameplay needed to get the character
- Harsh Jedi death penalty which was permanent after only 3 deaths
In 2004, SOE responded to the complaints by changing the death penalties to mere skill losses and switching to a quest system to unlock the Jedi slot. In 2005 the Star Wars Galaxies Jedi was made a starting profession as part of the major update, New Game Enhancement.
Players and media outlets then started criticizing the reduction and simplification of the SWG Jedi profession and other gameplay, stating that the game now lacked complexity and debt.
However you may feel about the game or the Jedi changes, if you preferred the original more complex game or the new simplified version, there are resources you can put to use for the most optimal game experience. Star Wars Galaxies mods can be obtained to enhance and personalize the game.
You can even get SWG bots to skip over the boring parts of the game by automating the leveling process. The game may never be perfect but these resources can sure help make it better.
